D’Mello, the then Bishop of Allahabad heard that the mission compound in Akbarpur was for sale. Bishop R. D’Mello negotiated with the authorities concerned and purchased the mission compound. Bro. Pascal a veteran missionary and a practicing doctor who was good both in allopathic and homeopathy medicines was sent there who cured a paralytic woman after the futile medication from various hospitals, which became sensational event that made the people to say that a great doctor had come to the mission. Unfortunately, within six months he was transferred to Lapta Mission in Sultanpur District. In the month of July 1969, Bro. Innocent and Fr. D. Kamath were asked to go to Akbarpur. In 1979 Bishop B. Mudartha invited religious sisters “Maids of the Poor” from Barabanki to run a technical school for the girls. Initially there were three sisters and there were 15 typewriters and 12 sewing machines. Together with typing and tailoring classes, girls and women were given lessons in hygiene and child keeping. In 1980 the church building which had tiled roof and was in a bad condition was repaired and a slab roof was put, making the church worthy of God’s house and a landmark in the city of Akbarpur. Due to a fatal accident in 2000 in which two Maids of the Poor Sisters lost their lives, the Society –M.O.P. decided to close the convent at Akbarpur, after which Sisters of St. Francis of Dilligen (OSF) came to Akbarpur in 2001.
