Raichur like Ballari, saw the activities of Portuguese Friars Minor long ago, but unfortunatlely historical records are not found. After the Franciscans, the Jesuits, Thietines and priests from Goa served in Raichur. A handful of Christians of the potter and fishermen community were part of this parish. The first Church "Immaculate Conception" was built in 1732, but due to some reason it collapsed in 1882. It was rebuilt in 1884 under the title of "Our Lady of Lourdes." The mortal remains of one of the 18th century missionaries, Fr. Levada SJ are in the old church. The church in the Railway Station area was built in 1878. The church was renovated by Fr. Sebastian K. and blessed by the Bishop Joseph D'Silva on 3December1996. With the rapid growth of the Catholics, Fr. Irudayaraj M.S. further extended the church giving it the present face-lift.It was blessed in 2008. Sub stations and No. of families • Dinni Village (30 families)
