A sanatorium and military barracks were in Ramgad. There were several bungalows where many Catholic military officers, medical personnel and their families resided. There was a church in Ramgad as early as 1847.The Bellary Mission had bungalows whichwere used as the priests 'residences and retreat house, during the summer season. The Good Shepherd Sisters had a chapel and a bungalow which the European nuns used during hot season. Bishop of Bellary too had a bungalow there, known as Hogan Bungalow. With the opening of the iron ore mines in Sandur area, and the inflow of Catholics, Sandur was established as an outstation of the Cathedral Parish, Bellary. In the year 1971, it became an independent Mission unit with Fr. C.V. Silva sj, as the first priest-in-charge. He was followed by Fr. Denis Menezes till 1979, who built the present church and presbytery. The church and presbytery were officially blessed and consecrated by the Bishop Ambrose Yeddanapalli ofm, on 28November 1978. The present church's renovation and extention work started by Fr. Francis Chinnppa and completed during the time of Fr. C. Philip. It was blessed by Bishop Henry D'Souza 24 April 2016.
