Mary Matha Church

In March 1989, Fr. Thomas Thalachira started Qurbana and prayers in Alibaug. In the beginning, Holy Qurbana was conducted in the house of Mr. M.K. Kochappan as we did not have a place of our own. By the time, Fr. Thomas Thalachira and the Parish Priest of Corle Church took initiative for building a church in Alibaug. After a long time, around 17 years, the first land for building the church was owned by the diocese in Kurul village, Taluka Alibaug. But we could not build a church there due to some local issues. In 2006, the Diocese owned an apt plot in Alibaug for the church under the leadership of Fr. Francis John, accompanied by Mr. Joy George, Mr. Joy Joseph, Mr. V. R. James, Miss. Lincy Joseph and Mr. M. P. Francis. In 2005, 4.10 Guntha plot was registered. The foundation stone of the church was laid by Mar. Thomas Elavanal on 28/10/2006. Construction started by the financial help from the Diocese and the fund raised by Fr. Francis John and the parish members. Fr. Shinto Vallanattu took charge in 2008 and he took more effort in completing the pending works. The first Holy Qurbana was held on 28 Oct, 2009 by Mar. Thomas Elavanal. Rev. Fr. Binu Kureekattil succeeded Fr. Shinto Vallanattu and took charge on 11/5/2011. Fr. Joby Ayithamattam took charge as Parish Priest in June 2011.
