Church History

In Nov. 1988, Msgr. Thomas Thalalchira was appointed as the Zonal Vicar of Navi Mumbai Zone. During the season of Lent in 1989, he came to Kalamboli and visited all the Syro-Malabar families in the area. Accordingly on 16th June 1989, we got our first Qurbana centre at St. Joseph School classroom. Soon after that, Fr. John Madukkoli was appointed as priest in-charge of Kalamboli centre. In the first Parish council meeting held on 01-02-1990, it was proposed to name Kalamboli centre as St. Sebastian’s Church. Since then, every year the parish is celebrating the feast of its patron, St. Sebastian. From the midnight Qurbana on 1990 Christmas day, there was regular Qurbana on every Sunday. Under the leadership of Fr. John Madukkoli, there was a signature campaign for getting the land allotted for the construction of the church. In June 1995 the new Parish Priest Fr. Abraham Kollithadathil forwarded an application to the CIDCO for allotment of land for construction of a church in Kalamboli. After the transfer of Fr. Abraham, Fr. Francis John took charge of Kalamboli centre and he started various fund raising programmes for the construction of the church. CIDCO allotted 500 sq. mtrs of land for construction of church and Fr. Joseph Muthupplackal started the procedure for buying the allotted land. Fr. Jose Pazheveetil made a request to CIDCO to allot an additional 250 sq. mtr land and CIDCO allotted the same too. On 30th June 1999, foundation stone for our church was laid by Mar Thomas Elavanal. Fr. George Muttathupadam led the community during the construction of the church. On 11 Jan. 2003, Mar Thomas Elavanal blessed the church and opened it for worship to the parishioners. On 23rd July 2006 centre was elevated to the status of a parish. 10th Anniversary Celebration was inaugurated on 19-08-2012 by Mar Thomas Elavanal.
