Church History

In 1544 the people of Kombuthurai were baptised by St. Francis Xavier. The same year a small Church was built and an altar erected by St. Francis Xavier. Rev. Fr. G. Oswald Fernando renovated this Church in 1991. Kombuthurai which was a substation to Virapandianpatnam for long period was made a substation of Chingithurai when it was made a parish. On 20th August 2003 Kombuthurai was made a separate parish by Bishop Peter Fernando. The Church at Kombuthurai is a shrine dedicated to St. Stephen. Rev. Fr. Xavier George renovated the Church a little bit. Now a new Church is being built by Rev. Fr. Alexander. The presbytery was built by Rev. Fr.
