St. Anne’s Church
Church History
Catholics have been living at Koodankulam for more than 200 years. From 1800 it was one of the substations of Idinthakarai. There was a small Church with thatched roof.
In 1854 when there was a severe famine Protestant Bishop Caldwell came here, helped the people and tried to spread his message here and many Catholics became Protestants.
In 1873 the foundation stone was laid.
Till 1972 Koodankulam was a substation of Idinthakarai.
From 1972 up to 1980 it was attached to Duraikudiyiruppu.
From 1980 to 2008 Koodankulam became a substation of Perumanal.
On 19th May 2008, it was made a separate parish by Bishop Yvon Ambroise and Rev. Fr. Thaddaeus Rajan was appointed the first priest.
