St. Francis Of Assisi Church

The Kerala Catholic Association started the Assisi Co-operative Housing Society in 1975 and in 1983 about 50 catholic Malayalee families belonging to the society settled in Assisi Nagar. In order to meet the spiritual and religious needs of the families CMI fathers offered Holy Qurbana and other sacraments on Sundays and other important occasions. From October 1988 onwards priests from Kalyan diocese started offering Holy Qurbana at St. Francis Qurbana centre and KCA Bhavan. On April 1989 Rev. Fr. Jacob Porathur was appointed as the first parish priest of Assisi Nagar. The parish consists of 90 families living in Assisi Nagar, Shivaji Nagar, Lokhande Marg and Indian Oil Nagar. In 1997 the parish has purchased two flats admeasuring about 1100 sq. ft. which was used as a church and residence of the parish priest. Pious associations like Pithruvedi, Mathrusangam, Youth, Catechism are very active in our parish. The effort to buy a separate place for the church is in progress.
