Church History
Fr. Valerian Fernandes purchased land in Galsi and also Channabeldanga. Bishop Cyprian Monis invited the MSFS Fathers. It was on 09-04-1999 accompanied by Fr. George Parampukattil, the provincial of North East India Province Fr. Athanas Kerketta reached in the diocese of Asansol to start the MSFS mission. In the beginning MSFS Fathers started the Asha Deep Centre in Channa Village. Later on, they constructed St. Francis De Sales Community Center Galsi East and shifted the residence there. On April 1, 2001 an agreement was signed by the Bishop of Asansol and the Provincial FR George Parampukattil and the diocese of Asansol entrusted in perpetum the pastoral care and development of the area covered under the police stations of Galsi (Burdwan Dt), Patrasayer and Indus ( Bankura Dt) to the MSFS. This area was bifurcated frm the Sacred Heart Parish Burdwan and from then onwards it was functioning as a quasiparish under the name Kristo Jayanti Ashram, Galsi. Fr. Athanas Kerketta msfs was the priest in- charge of the Galsi area followed by Frs. Sudhir Kullu msfs, Thomas Kunnappally msfs, Daniel Chennala msfs. It was erected into a parish in 2011. Fr. Varghese Vanisseril msfs was appointed as the first Parish Priest later in 2014. Fr. Alois Brogaon msfs was appointed as his successor. In 2014 the diocese of Asansol entrusted to the MSFS the pastoral care and development of Darjeeeling More area in Panagarh, Burdwan district in perpetum. Fr. Varghese Vanisseril was appointed as its first priest in- charge and in 2016 Fr. Varghese Prakhuzy succeeded him.
