Church History

Ever since 1971, when the Carmelite Sisters (CMC) of Changanacherry Province in Kerala opened their first chool in Joda, it was a sub-station of Barbil and was looked after from Barbil as there were Catholics in the mines of Joda. In 1979, the church was built and Fr. Zacharias Kunnamkattuthara was appointed First Parish Priest. In 1984, the boys’ hostel was started. On the following year Fr. George Rathappilly replaced Fr. Zacharias as Parish Priest. On 30th June, 1986, when the CMC Sisters left the English Medium School, the same was taken up by the SABS Sisters. In 1992, Fr George Mattathilany who was associate Priest in Joda relieved Fr. George Rathappily and assumed charge as Parish Priest. In 1994 Fr. Daniel Kishore took charge of the parish Priest and continued utill 1999 when Fr. Rayappan was appointed as the parish Priest. Fr. Rayappan was replaced by Fr. Antony in 2001, when he was transferred from there Fr. Varghes Pudumattam took charge of the Parish as the Parish Priest in 2002 and he continues.
