Coimbatore Diocese • Tamil Nadu, India

Church History

It comes under Dharapuram Vicarate. We have the priviledge of the first shrine dedicated to Maria Bambina in Asian Continent from 1980 onwards. We have a small chapel inside Carmel Girls Hr. Sec. School campus. Fr. Selvaraj was the pioneer and Fr. Maria Antony Paul bought the new land in National Highways and the present Church is constructed by Fr. A. Xavier Cladious. Jan 15, 2016, our Lordship blessed the new Church and within 5 months it became a separate parish from Vellakovil and within next 6 month it was announced and declared as a diocesan as a diocesan shrine by our bishop Most Rev. Dr. L. Thomas Aquinas. It attracts pilgrims all over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andra. Every first Sunday is a very special day, we have fasting prayer from morning to noon. People visit and pray in huge numbers on all the days. The shrine is situated 65 km away from Coimbatore on the National Highways to Karur – Trichy Road. We have vehicle facility and autos are available.
