Detached from Morapai it was erected into a Parish in 1927 with Fr. Comerford S.J. as the first Parish Priest. He was later on replaced by Fr. De Besterfeld, SJ. In 1943 during the famous Bengal famine Fr. Sedej, SJ saved thousands of peasants from starvation and even from death in and around Khari. It was Fr. Poderzaj, SJ who built the Parish Church. The Most Rev. Henry D'Souza was the Parish Priest for a few years. Khari consists of 10 substations.
