THANDLA A short history: - Thandla is the cradle of Christianity in the Bhil-Evangelization. In 1896 for the first time the French Capuchin the first Bhil missionary Fr. Charles Ploemer OFM (Cap), carried out the work of evangelization along with other missionary activities among the Bhils. In 1897 Fr. Charles constructed a house with two rooms and a chapel and a year later he also opened a dispensary to care for the sick and gave them first aid in times of need. The Sisters of St. Mary of the Angels (SMA) arrived on 21st November, 1907 at Thandla Mission to take care of the sick people in the area. On 4th April 1910 another congregation namely Prabhudasi Sisters of Ajmer (PSA) joined the Thandla Mission in the work of evangelization. They rendered and education. On 11th March 1935 Thandla Mission became the part of the Diocese of Ajmer. However, until 1948 the French Capuchins continued to render their services at Thandla. It was only in 1949 that Thandla Mission was handed over to the diocesan clergy. Fr. Noronha was the first diocesan priest to be appointed to continue the evangelization of Thandla Mission. On 29th December 1984 Thandla Mission came under the Diocese of Udaipur which was formed after bifurcating from the Diocese of Ajmer-Jaipur. In the year 2002 Thandla Mission was brought under the newly erected Diocese of Jhabua.
