St. Thomas Church

In response to the appeal of the Syro-Malabar Catholics in Pune to the Syro-Malabar Bishops in Kerala to appoint priests to take care of their own community, two priests belonging to the missionary Society of St. Thomas (MST), Rev. Fr. Lonappan Arangassery MST and Rev. Fr. George Kavukkatu MST were deputed as chaplains to Syro-Malabar Catholics in Pune on 9th June 1984. Later 3 more priests, Rev. Fr. Peter Kavupuram MST, Rev. Fr. Mathew Muthassery and Rev. fr. John Madukoly MST joined them. In 1984 August, on a Thursday at 6.30 pm, the 1st Syro Malabar Qurbana was offered at St. Patricks Cathederal. Then a request arouse mainly from the Nursing Officers of Southern Command & Cadets of AFMC to let Syro Malabar Qurbana be allowed to take place in the Military Chapel at Command Hospital Pune. It continued thereafter. The various associations such as Mathrusangham, Catechism Classes, Youth wing Choir etc also became active. Mar Thomas Elavanal appointed our 1st Parish Priest as Fr. Joy Chitteth on 5-02-2007 to cater to our spiritual needs. Fr. Martin Velliyamkandathil served the Parish from June 2010 to Jan 2014. From Feb 2014 Fr. Soji Pezhathinkal lead this mission, who has started the ground work for a new chuch building and is catering to the spiritual needs of the Parish. Our previous Parish Priests are Rev. Fr. George Kavukattu MST, Rev. Fr. Lonappan Arangasser MST, Rev. Fr. Peter Kavumpuram, Rev. Fr. Mathew Moothassery, and Rev. Fr. Dr. Mathew Kizhakkearanjani, Rev. Fr. Jose Thannipara, Rev. Fr. Jose Kalarikkal, Rev. Fr. Jose Valiyamangalam, Rev. Fr. Jose Thekkumattom, Rev. Fr. Julius Arackal, Rev. Fr. Mathew Adampakkalel, Rev. Fr. Joy chitteth. With the effort of Rev. Fr. Joy Chitteth, support of all parishioners and well wishers and under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Martin Velliyamkandathil, we have purchased a land for our own parish. Fr.
